What it means to be an Oblate PDF Print E-mail

Peace be unto you in the Name of Our Lord Jesus Christ. You will note that The Rule is simple, designed to lay the foundation for a spiritual Journey, and can be kept by any Christian, in a Religious Order or otherwise. However, in conjunction with a Spiritual Director who is prepared to lead and direct the Oblate in this spiritual journey, it can be the beginning of a most fulfilling inner life. Upon entry into the Order an individual enters a postulancy of three months.  Postulancy is for those who feel a call to a deeper inner life but are not yet prepared to make a full commitment. Upon completion of ones postulancy, the Oblate enters a nine month Novitiate under the Direction of a Novitiate Master.   Novices, are learning about their own inner life and need an outward and visible sign of that commitment. They are allowed to wear the Alb and Cross of the Order but not the Scapular. Oblates may then chose to either be vested or non-vested and may wear the Scapular as well. Read the Rule of the Order for specific requirements of those who have made their Full Oblation. The Order is small; our members are scattered all around the world. Amongst them are home-makers, clergy, people in business, a judge, nurses, etc. We are currently represented in The Ukraine, South America, Europe, South Africa, and the United States plus Puerto Rico. Each member is recommended to have a Spiritual Director, whom they have chosen, who has committed to assist them on their journey. You will note that we differ from most of the Religious Orders in that we are non-denominational. Any Christian may be a member.  However, 70% of our membership is Anglican.
